El Paso Aggie Mom's Club

                                                Howdy!

On behalf of the Texas A&M Mothers Club of El Paso, I would like to send out a warm Aggie welcome to all of you.  I am truly honored to be serving another year as President during the 2011-2012 year.  This is truly a wonderful organization and I have been blessed to have met so many amazing women that I am proud to call friends.  In the six years I have been an Aggie Mom, officers as well as students have come and gone but one thing has always remained and that is the Aggie Spirit!  A true example of Aggie Spirit was felt again this year when, for the second consecutive year, I and several Aggie Moms walked in honor of Barbara Cotton during the Susan G. Komen Walk for the Cure.  This past year was extra special because Barbara and her husband Kirby joined us.  Barbara is our VP of Glass and truly an inspiration to us all.  We love you Barbara!!  We all look forward to continuing this new tradition and supporting a great cause.

At our Ice Cream Social in May we awarded six merit-based scholarships to very deserving El Paso area graduating senior.  One of those students was awarded the Jackson-Daniels Memorial Scholarship which is sponsored by the Ring of Honor Club.  The Ring of Honor Club is comprised of those mothers whose students have graduated from A&M, and is a group within the El Paso Aggie Moms Club.  The El Paso Aggie Moms Club also awarded scholarships to five returning students.  In total, we were able to give 11 scholarships.  Our club is very proud to have been able to raise the funds to provide scholarships to these wonderful Aggies.  It is crucial that we continue to grow as a club so that we cant continue to supporting our El Paso Aggie students.

Throughout the year we spend countless hours working hard to make our “Blasted Glass” at workshops.  I encourage everyone to join us in as many workshops as you can.  Each of these workshops is hosted by an Aggie Mom and we try to have them in all parts of town so everyone can attend.  These workshops are a great opportunity to meet other Aggie moms who may be experiencing an “empty nest”, as well as those moms who have survived and have great advice.

On a personal note I just want to tell those of you who might be considering joining or thinking of not joining, to come to at least one meeting.  For me, I still remember the warmth and camaraderie I felt at my first meeting.  I wasn’t planning on joining that night but was so impressed and overwhelmed that I joined that day and have loved every minute since.  Don’t be discouraged if you can’t make every meeting and workshop, because even if you make only a few it will make a big difference to our club and I know you won’t be disappointed.  I look forward to meeting all of you!
